Our Mission

To serve low-income and multicultural individuals, families and communities while assisting youth to be successful within their schools and their lives.

The Pre-College Programs, sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Student Services, are committed to supporting multicultural communities and low-income families in the La Crosse area and around the state. University students and staff members serve as role models and mentors for the youth and as liaisons to the communities within which the Pre-College participants reside.

MARC tutoring will be in person Fall 2021!!

The Pre-College academic year offerings provide local youth with weekly tutoring and enrichment opportunities. Our outreach efforts serve African-American, Native American, Latino, and Hmong youth from around the area. Over 125 UWL undergraduate students from diverse ethnic backgrounds serve as tutors and mentors each semester.

Mentoring and Readiness for College (MARC) Program

UWL Thursday Tutoring

Academic year tutoring and enrichment for multicultural and low-income students in the La Crosse and surrounding communities.

We'll help you get ready for, and get excited about going to college!

Our mentoring staff is made up of UWL college students and local professionals from a variety of backgrounds. Our low student-to-mentor ratio allows staff build a meaningful trust with our youth while serving as positive role-models to promote understanding and appreciation, self-awareness and cultural awareness.

Through a combination of tutoring, enrichment, and communication, MARC motivates youth to take a proactive role in their own life choices and become engaged members in their community.

  • Tutoring: We strive to meet the academic needs of our students by offering help in specific school subjects and by developing more effective study skills.
  • Enrichment: Beyond academics, MARC also exposes students to enrichment and recreational opportunities, organizations within the community, and events on local campuses.
  • Communication: We work to collaborate closely with parents, teachers, and school administrators.

But most importantly:

MARC inspires students to attend college!
