Two UW-L coaches retire

Two long-time coaches are retiring. Head swimming and diving coach Richard Pein will retire at the end of the 2011-12 season and head volleyball coach Sheila Perkins retired after completing her 18th season in October.

Alums help with Bliss Road work

In the late 1980s these two UW-La Crosse alums were geography majors. Today Mike Harding, ’89, left, and Christopher Fechner,’90, are using their land surveying skills to help make improvements to Bliss Road.

Sounds of the season at UW-L

Celebrate the holiday season with UW-La Crosse bands and choirs. Four upcoming UW-L concerts feature traditional carols, new yuletide music and some of UW-L’s new directing talent.

Alums embark on Appalachian adventure

The Appalachian Trail is about 2,200 miles from Georgia to Maine. It traverses 14 states through cow pastures, rocky cliffs, waterfalls and open plains. The upward treks are the equivalent of hiking Mount Everest 16 times.

UW-La Crosse gradates Robert “Jake” Hoffmann and Travis Pernsteiner started hiking the trail two days after their May 2011 graduation. They finished four months later with full-grown beards, gazing down from the top of Mount Katahdin.
